It is soluble in water, ethanol, acetone, ether, and chloroform, and is a highly polar, inert solvent. It is flammable when heated to high temperatures, producing toxic sulfide fumes. DMSO is highly hygroscopic and readily undergoes violent chemical reactions.Dimethyl Sulfoxide DMSO is considered a hazardous chemical.
