CAS 78-83-1 2-Methyl-1-propanol also known as isobutanol or isobutyl alcohol, it is an organic compound with the chemical formula C4H10O. It is a flammable, irritating, colorless and transparent liquid with a characteristic odor, and is highly soluble in ethanol and ether.

99% 2-Methyl-1-propanol Uses

1. Isobutyl Alcohol is used as a solvent for cellulose nitrate and as a solvent for ethyl cellulose, polyvinyl butyral, a variety of oils, rubber and natural resins.

2. Industrial Grade 2-Methyl-1-propanol is mainly used as a raw material in the production of diisobutyl phthalate, which is used as a plasticiser, and isobutyl acetate, which is used in the manufacture of lacquers and similar coatings. It is also used in the food industry as a flavouring agent and as a diluent for adhesives. A small amount is used in the production of isobutyl butyrate and isobutyl lactate.

3. Isobutanol is used as a reagent for determining calcium, strontium, barium, sodium, potassium, lithium, silver, chlorine and phosphite. It is also used as a chemical extractant in the production of organic compounds and as a mobile phase in thin-layer chromatography.

4. IBA is also used as a paint solvent, varnish remover and ink ingredient.
