CAS 75-65-0 Tert-butyl alcohol (TBA), also known as trimethylmethanol or 2-methyl-2-propanol, forms four isomers of butanol alongside n-butanol, isobutanol and secondary butanol. The pure product is a colourless, crystalline liquid with a camphor-like odour. It is volatile in the presence of a small amount of water, hygroscopic and flammable. It is more toxic and narcotic than other alcohols. It is soluble in most organic solvents, such as alcohols, esters, ketones, aromatics, and aliphatic hydrocarbons. It can also form an azeotrope with water. These properties make TBA a useful solvent and additive, as well as being one of the petrochemical products with a wide range of applications.
