It is insoluble in water at room temperature but soluble in numerous organic solvents, including acetone, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, diethyl ether, and ethanol. It serves as a key raw material for synthesizing polyacrylonitrile fibers and in the production of rubber, plastics, and coatings. Acrylonitrile CAS 107-13-1 also functions as a solvent, extractant, and catalyst for polymerization reactions.
