Normal Propyl Alcohol NPA, also known as 1-propanol, is an organic compound with the molecular formula C₃H₈O and a molecular weight of 60.10. It is a colourless, transparent liquid that smells like ethanol and is soluble in water, ethanol, and ether. It is obtained from ethylene via the carbonyl synthesis of propionaldehyde and subsequent reduction. It is mainly used as a solvent and can replace ethanol as a solvent due to its lower boiling point. It is also used in colour layer analysis.
