ECH is an easy-to-volatilise, colourless liquid with a similar irritant smell to chloroform and ether. Its density is 1.1806 g/cm³, its boiling point is 116.11 °C, its solidification point is -57.2 °C, its refractive index (nD20) is 1.4382, its flash point is 40.6 °C, its self-ignition point is 415 °C and it is slightly soluble in water and mixes with many kinds of organic solvents, forming azeotrops with many kinds of organic liquids.

 

• Epoxy resins: epichlorohydrin is one of the main raw materials used to produce epoxy resins, which are widely used in coatings, adhesives and paints thanks to their excellent mechanical properties and chemical resistance.
• Water treatment: epichlorohydrin is used in water treatment chemicals, particularly in the manufacture of water purification agents and flocculants, due to its high reactivity.
• Polymer manufacturing: It is also used to produce polyurethanes, elastomers and other polymers for use in a wide variety of industrial applications.
