CAS No 127-18-4 Tetrachloroethylene (also known as perchloroethylene) is an organic compound with the chemical formula C₂Cl₄. Tetrachloroethylene is a colourless liquid that is insoluble in water but can be mixed with most organic solvents, such as ethanol, ether and chloroform. Its main uses are as an organic solvent, a dry-cleaning agent, an adhesive solvent, a metal degreasing solvent, a desiccant, a paint remover and an insect repellent. It can also be used in organic synthesis.

In industry, perchloroethylene PCE is mainly used as a solvent for organic synthesis, to clean metal surfaces, as a dry cleaning agent, as a desulfuriser and as a heat transfer medium. It is also used medically as a dewormer. It is also used to make fluorinated organics.

Tetrachloroethylene (CAS No 127-18-4 ) is widely used in metal degreasing, cleaning agents, paint removers, dry cleaning agents, rubber and ink solvents, liquid soaps, and high-grade fur and feather degreasing. Tetrachloroethylene is also used as an insect repellent (hookworm and ginger tablets) and a finishing agent for textile processing.
