Product Description

Monoethylene Glycol (MEG Chemical) is also known as ethylene glycol, glycol, 1,2-ethylene glycol, or EG for short. The chemical formula is (CH2OH)2, which is the simplest diol. Ethylene glycol is a colorless, odorless, sweet liquid, and has low toxicity to animals. Ethylene glycol is miscible with water and acetone, but has a low solubility in ethers. Used as a solvent, antifreeze and raw material for synthetic polyester. Polyethylene glycol (PEG), a high polymer of ethylene glycol, is a phase transfer catalyst and is also used for cell fusion; its nitrate ester is an explosive.

MEG Chemical Uses

Monoethylene Glycol has two main uses: as a raw material in the production of polyester fibres and in antifreeze formulations.

1. MEG is used in the production of polyester, polyester resin, moisture absorption agents, plasticisers, surfactants, synthetic fibres, cosmetics and explosives. It is also used as a dye, ink and solvent, in the preparation of engine antifreeze and gas dehydrating agents, and in the manufacture of resin. It can also be used in cellophane, fibre, leather and adhesive wetting agents.

2. Monoethylene glycol can be used to produce synthetic resin PET. Fiber-grade PET is used to make polyester fibers, while bottle-chip grade PET is used to make mineral water bottles, among other things. It can also be used to produce alkyd resin and glyoxal, and is also used as an antifreeze. As well as being used in automotive antifreeze, it is also used in industrial cold transport and is generally referred to as a refrigerant.

3. MEG Chemical can be used to produce pesticide and pharmaceutical intermediates, as well as synthetic brake fluid and other chemical products.

4. It is used as a textile auxiliary, a synthetic liquid dye, a chemical fertiliser and an oil refining desulfuriser.
