CAS 108-87-2 Methyl Cyclohexane is an organic compound with the chemical formula C₇H₁₄. It is a colourless, transparent liquid that is insoluble in water but soluble in ethanol, ether, acetone, benzene, petroleum ether and carbon tetrachloride. Its main uses are as a solvent and as a standard substance for chromatographic analysis and calibrating thermometers. Methyl cyclohexane solvent is also employed in organic synthesis.

Methyl Cyclohexane Solvent Uses

1. Industrial solvents: Methyl Cyclohexane is used as a thinner for alkyd resins, acrylic coatings and industrial adhesives, and it removes oil stains from metal surfaces (e.g. automotive parts and mechanical components).

2. Extraction and separation: Food-grade MCH is used to extract plant oils (e.g. soybean oil and essential oils).

3. Chemical synthesis: Methyl Cyclohexane Solvent is used as an intermediate in the production of cyclohexanecarboxylic acid, methylcyclohexanol and other fine chemicals, as well as in organic synthesis.

4. Other fields: Fuel additive (improves the octane number of gasoline); laboratory reagent (solvent for chromatography); plasticiser diluent in PVC processing.
