CAS 112-27-6 Triethylene glycol is an organic compound belonging to the class of alcohols, with the molecular formula C₆H₁₄O₄ and a molecular weight of approximately 150.17. It is typically a colourless, odourless, viscous liquid with a relative density of 1.12, a boiling point of 278.3 °C, a freezing point of -7.2 °C, a flash point of 176.7 °C and an autoignition temperature of 371.1 °C. It is easily soluble in water and mixes well with most fatty alcohols, ketones, esters and low-molecular-weight halogenated hydrocarbons. Triethylene glycol is weakly acidic.

Industrial Grade Triethylene Glycol Uses

Triethylene glycol (TEG) has many uses, including as a solvent, extractant and desiccant.

It is an excellent dehydrating agent for natural gas, oilfield-associated gas and carbon dioxide. It is also a solvent for nitrocellulose, rubber, resins, greases, paints, pesticides and more. TEG functions as an air bactericide and a plasticiser in the form of triethylene glycol esters) for polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyvinyl acetate resins, fibreglass and asbestos-pressed

panels. It is also used as a humectant for tobacco, a fibre lubricant, and a desiccant for natural gas.

99% Triethylene Glycol is also used in organic synthesis, for example in the production of brake fluids with high boiling points and excellent low-temperature performance. Triglycol serves as a stationary phase in gas chromatography (maximum operating temperature: 100°C; solvents: acetone and methanol).
