CAS 71-36-3 n-Butanol , also known as n-butyl alcohol or butan-1-ol, is a primary alcohol with the chemical formula C₄H₁₀ and a linear structure. Its isomers are isobutanol, butan-2-ol and tert-butanol.

n-Butanol occurs naturally as a minor by-product of ethanol fermentation and is present in many foods and drinks. In the United States, it is also a permitted artificial flavouring agent used in butter, cream, fruit, rum, whisky, ice cream, sorbets, sweets, baked goods and cordials. It is also used in a wide range of consumer products.

n-Butanol CAS 71-36-3 is mainly used to produce butyl acetate, di-butyl phthalate, and phosphoric acid plasticisers. It is also used to produce melamine resin, acrylic acid, epoxy varnish and so on, as well as in organic synthesis. In the food industry, n-butyl alcohol can be used to prepare flavours for banana, cream, whisky, cheese and other foods.
