Product Description

1-butanol CAS 71-36-3 is an organic compound with the chemical formula C4H10O. It is a colourless, transparent liquid that produces a strong flame when burned. It has an odour similar to fusel oil and its vapour is irritating and can cause coughing. Its boiling point is 117–118 °C and its relative density is 0.810. 99% 1-Butanol Liquid is miscible with many other organic solvents. It can be obtained through the fermentation of sugars, or via the catalytic hydrogenation of n-butyraldehyde or butenal. It is used as a solvent for fats, waxes, resins, shellac, varnishes, etc., or in the manufacture of paints, rayon and detergents.

1-Butanol Liquid Applications

1. Production of n-butyl ester plasticisers (phthalic acid, aliphatic dibasic acid and phosphoric acid), and plastic and rubber products.

2. 99% 1-Butanol is also used to produce butyraldehyde, butyric acid, butylamine and butyl lactate in organic synthesis.

3. It is used to extract oils, medicines and spices, and as an additive in alkyd resin coatings.

4. It can be used as a solvent and a dewaxing agent for organic dyes and printing inks.

5. 1-Butanol liquid is also used in the production of melamine resin, acrylic acid and epoxy varnish.

6. It is used as a reagent for chromatographic analysis and for organic synthesis.

7. Used to prepare banana, cream, whisky and cheese flavours.
